The 9 Spot: Chrysoula Tzavelas

Chrysoula Tzavelas’ novel Matchbox Girls debuts today from Candlemark and Gleam. What’s it about?

Marley Claviger is just trying to get her life together. Stumbling into an ancient conflict between celestial forces is going to make that a whole lot harder…

When Marley wakes up to a phone call from a pair of terrified children, she doesn’t expect to be pulled into a secret war. She rescues them from an empty house and promises to find their missing uncle. She even manages to feed them dinner. But she barely feels competent to manage her own life, let alone care for small children with strange, ominous powers…

And when a mysterious angelic figure shows up and tries to claim the girls, it all falls apart…

Plagued by visions of disaster, Marley has no idea what she’s gotten herself into, but she knows one thing: magical or not, the kids need her.

To celebrate Chrysoula’s debut today, I’m asking her 9 essential questions we need to know about every author.

9. Legs or pudding?
Same thing…? No? Okay, legs.

8. Jean jacket or leather jacket?
When I was a child in the 80s, I talked like a child of the 80s, I did my hair like a child of the 80s, I wore denim things. But when I became an adult I put things of the 80s aside.

Or at least jean jackets. Leather, please.

7. Blind faith or cold logic?
Blind faith would be nice but it isn’t happening. Cold logic is my frenemy.

6. Pen or keyboard?
Keybo– are we talking one of those really nice pens? The ones with smooth action and great ink that perfectly fit in your hand and draw the thoughts out of your head onto a sweetly empty bound notebook? Ooh, that’s a tough one. But I do most of my actual writing with a keyboard…

5. Zombies or unicorns?
I kinda have a soft spot for my brains, so I think I’ll go with unicorns.

4. Hardback or paperback?
Paperback. I can’t handle slipcovers.

3. Bookmark or fold the page?
My answer would probably just horrify right-thinking book lovers everywhere so we’ll go with ‘bookmark’.

2. Hoard or share?
I love to share as long as everybody knows the true owner of that which is shared!

1. Happy ending or total devastation?
Happy ending. Basically. If you don’t think about it too hard.
