Say Meep, Get Suspended
Say Meep, Get Suspended- that’s what Danvers High School Principal Thomas Murray declared when he discovered that students were planning a mass meeping.
And I have to say, friends, the whole article made me laugh. Of all the things those students could be doing- of all the harmful and dangerous and questionable things they could be doing- seriously. They decided they would all say meep at the same time. And then the principal decided to get foolish. He autocalled every parent to warn them that any meepery would be met with suspension.
Seriously. Say meep, get suspended.
You know what I wish now? I wish every single student in that school actually would band together for a day of nothing but meeps. Because it is harmless. It is silly. And he cannot possibly suspend everyone in school. And yes, I imagine a handful of people would get suspended until the tide turned and Principal Murray was forced to back off his ridiculous position.
But I think it would be worth it. In fact, I think it would be educational. Because what better way to learn about the historied and esteemed act of civil disobedience than to live it. In a safe, controlled environment, over an issue no smaller than free speech, but no more dangerous than some irritated adults?
To the students of Danvers High School, I salute you.
And I say meep.

You know what is so funny about this whole thing is that after talking to you about it yesterday, I spoke to a friend of mine from high school who actually recalled something that had happened like this in one of our English classes in HS. One person started it and the entire hour was filled with meeps. I kid you not. I can’t remember this, but she swears on her life it happened and she’s never made a habit of lying, so I believe her haha I think the principle should be glad he hadn’t gone to my high school cause what you’re proposing is probably exactly what would have happened had he tried to prevent people from saying it. Not everyone would have participated of course, but everyone I knew would have with a drop of a dime, and I knew a whole lot of people in HS. Actually, me myself, I probably would have had a meepful day, of nothing but meepiness, because I was a disobedient smart ass Haha It would have been meeping fantastic.

Oh sure, it STARTS with meeping. But then meeping leads to blupping, and blupping to snarf. Before you know it, the whole student body is ooga plink boing!

I’ve named a cat in my current work in progress “Meep” in honor of this :-)
